The president said Saturday that re-admitting Russian Federation to the elite club would be "an asset", telling reporters, "we're looking for peace in the world". The White House said he would leave talks four hours earlier than originally planned.

"We are like the piggy bank that everyone is robbing and that ends", he told a news conference before flying to Singapore for denuclearzation talks with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

President Donald Trump said Saturday at the Group of Seven summit in Quebec, Canada, that the United States would "stop trading" with some of its closest allies unless they change what he believes to be unfair trade policies.

UK Prime Minister Theresa May has said she wants the European Union to act with restraint and proportion in retaliating to the USA tariffs. "And we charge nothing", Trump said.

Canada called Mr Trump's trade tariffs "illegal" while European Council President Donald Tusk warned that Mr Trump's stance on trade, climate change and Iran constituted a real danger.

He later said that Russia's return to the group would be "an asset" and that it would be a good move for peace in the world.

A senior UK Government source yesterday reminded Mr Trump of the reasons for Russia's absence from the G7.

President Donald Trump is issuing a stern warning to foreign countries not to retaliate against US tariffs on the imports of steel and aluminum.

Trump withdrew the USA from the Paris climate accord and his attendance of a G7 session on the issue was in question well into the last minute.

"The other leaders have been calling this G6 + 1 because Trump has been so isolated ever since this began, and that's because he launched an outright attack - that's in the view of the other members - on the global trading system by raising tariffs on steel and aluminum".

Israeli leader REJECTS Angela Merkel’s plea to reconsider Iran nuclear deal
Iran's Supreme Leader has ordered the increase of his uranium enrichment capacity to improve the country's nuclear capability "in case it's needed".

The German statement seems to fly in the face of what Trump said in his closing press conference in Quebec where he vowed to ramp up combative trade actions - even against some of his country's closest allies - or curtail trade altogether if partners can not agree to more favourable terms for America.

The meeting, which is taking place in Quebec, has had a six-plus-one tone from the start and the seven countries Canada, Britain, the US, France, Germany, Italy and Japan will most likely not be issuing a joint statement as they could not reach a consensus on trade.

That comment has Trump squarely offside with this fellow G7 leaders, including Canada, who view Russia's annexation of Ukraine's Crimean Peninsula and its meddling in western elections as a major worldwide security concern.

Trump's statement was made just before he left: the U.S. president has been at odds with the G-7 countries over mounting import duties disagreements.

Tensions continued to mount as Trump headed to Canada on Friday morning.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel expressed cynicism earlier this week about her prospects for the G7 summit, slyly faulting the Trump administration for its abandoning of old allegiances.

Trudeau on Saturday rejected a USA demand for a sunset clause in NAFTA but said he was prepared to compromise on the issue, which is holding up talks to update the 1990s-era pact.

In response, the European Union is preparing new tariffs set to hit U.S. exports ranging from jeans to bourbon whiskey.

The French president, Emmanuel Macron, said yesterday that this doesn't mean there won't be an agreement.

Vienna has been discussed as a possible venue for a summit between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, the Kremlin said Saturday.
