A West Wing aide who was dismissive of gravely ill Senator John McCain during a closed-door meeting last month has left the White House.
- White House Principal Deputy Press Secretary Raj Shah said in the statement.
Sadler was a special assistant to the president when she reportedly said it did not matter whether the Arizona senator opposed Gina Haspel, President Donald Trump's nominee for Central Intelligence Agency director, because "he's dying anyway".
It is unclear if Sadler's exit was a result of her comments about the Arizona senator, which were made during a White House internal staff meeting and subsequently leaked almost a month ago. John McCain, would still be welcome to work a different job in the Trump administration.
The White House Communications aide criticized for making fun of Sen.
"The reaction isn't good", said one Republican close to the White House, describing the current mood.
Sadler and the White House received widespread backlash for the remark, but the White House never publicly condemned it.
Sen. McCain is now battling terminal brain cancer and was also mocked by Trump during his campaign. McCain's wife, Cindy, also tweeted to Sadler, "May I remind you my husband has a family, 7 children and 5 grandchildren". "It's being addressed internally and I don't have anything further to add".
The White House had been strategizing an exit for Sadler for the last two weeks, a senior administration official said.
But people who don't trust their coworkers and think they're about to be fired rarely leak, so the White House should be good.
Conway would not comment on why Sadler was ousted from her role as a special assistant to Trump, which involved compiling and disseminating talking points to the administration's allies.
