But she also urged the UN's nuclear watchdog the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to carefully examine recent material submitted by Israel, allegedly on Iran's secret program.

Yisrael Katz's spoke out after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu began visiting European leaders to discuss Iran's regional involvement and nuclear programme, both seen by the Jewish state as grave threats.

Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei had ordered the increase in capacity in a speech Monday, in which he vowed that Iran would preserve its nuclear program despite the USA withdrawal from the landmark 2015 accord.

The modest steps announced Tuesday appeared to be mainly aimed at signalling that Iran could resume its drive toward industrial-scale enrichment if the nuclear accord comes unravelled.

The remaining partners - Britain, China, France, Germany and Russian Federation - have scrambled to save the 2015 accord as the United States readies to reimpose sanctions on Tehran.

Salehi stressed the announcement did not mean Iran will start assembling the centrifuges, and "does not violate the (2015 nuclear) agreement" between Tehran and world powers.

Iran's Supreme Leader has ordered the increase of his uranium enrichment capacity to improve the country's nuclear capability "in case it's needed". Apart from the U.S. and Iran, the UK, Russia, France, China and Germany had also signed the accord. I am telling the Europeans: "Limiting our missile development is a dream that will never come true", Khamenei said, in a televised speech at a large gathering to mark the 29th anniversary of the death of 1979 Iranian Revolution leader, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini.

Like Trump, Netanyahu has been a fierce critic of the deal, saying the agreement left Iran with the potential to quickly develop a nuclear weapon when the terms expire.

Netanyahu was hoping to get Germany, France and Britain to soften support for the joint comprehensive plan of action, from 2015, under which Iran agreed to dramatically reduce its nuclear activities in return for sanctions relief.

The letter comes as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu began a tour of Europe created to turn European leaders' support for a revived accord into a US-style exit from it.

'It's important to prevent Iran from getting a nuclear weapon.

Tensions between Iran and Israel have grown in recent weeks, after Trump pulled out of the Iran nuclear deal, a move praised by Israel and condemned by European states, who stood by the agreement with Iran.

"But we believe that this can be achieved with tough negotiations", she said.
