French Open: Ash Barty set to clash with Serena Williams in second round

Croatia's Marin Cilic clenches his fist after scoring a point against Australia's James Duckworth during their first round match of the French Open tennis tournament at the Roland Garros stadium in Paris France Tuesday

Williams, who won her 23rd major at the 2017 Australian Open while pregnant, is trying to win her first Slam with her daughter, Alexis Olympia Jr., in tow.

Controversially overlooked for a seeding in Paris, after having her first child last September and slipping to No.451 in the world, Williams carved out a 7-6 (7-4) 6-4 win over big-serving Czech left-hander Kristyna Pliskova.

The first glimpse of Williams as she prepared for her comeback came in an exhibition in December against 2017 French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko. Williams broke in the seventh and held in the eighth to set a 5-3 lead, which she converted on serve to win the second set 6-4.

¶ The two-time Grand Slam victor Garbiñe Muguruza is back to winning ways at the French Open after beating Svetlana Kuznetsova, another former Roland Garros champion.

After falling behind 3-0 in the first-set tiebreaker, Williams reeled off six points in a row.

The 36-year-old will play Australia's Ashleigh Barty in the next round. The return game that produced three consecutive breaks of serve.

In every category, Williams' achievements dwarf her opponent's, bar one - Pliskova holds the WTA record for aces in a single match: 31 at the 2016 Australian Open. Muguruza, who claimed the title in Paris two years ago, advanced to the second round with a 7-6 (0), 6-2 win.

"It feels like this suit represents all the women that have been through a lot mentally, physically, with their body to come back and have confidence and to believe in themselves", she added.

What time, channel is Warriors vs. Rockets, Game 7, on Monday?
But the Rockets' odds will no longer be neck-and-neck to close out the series at home in game 7 with Paul's health in question. The Warriors can get a mismatch on the switch and attack just like Houston does, but it hasn't proven to be as effective.

Williams is the only woman in the draw who features in her own HBO documentary series, Being Serena, and yesterday she more than justified her billing.

"I don't want her to ever feel like I'm not around".

Serena needed a few games to find her rhythm but managed to hold off Pliskova's challenge, 7-6 (4), 6-4.

Whatever happens over the next two weeks, Williams insists her family priorities have eased the expectations on her as a player.

Williams took the second 6-4 to secure her place in the second round.

Williams said she feels "like a warrior princess, kind of" when she wears the outfit.

"What she's done to be able to get back, along with Vika (Azarenka), as well, and a lot of the other girls who are coming back after pregnancy is a pretty incredible thing".

She explained to the BBC's Saj Chowdhury how a form-fitting bodysuit can be practical during a match. "But I think money goes to charity, so donate!" In the final game, Williams' right foot gave way as she sprinted toward the net and she landed on her backside.
