Legend then received a bit of backlash over his comments by Twitter users who thought the singer was defending the actions of MS-13 members, or "comparing violent gang members to innocent children".

He added,"When the MS-13 comes in, when the other gang members come into our country, I refer to them as animals".

"We have people coming into the country, or trying to come in - and we're stopping a lot of them", Trump said during the immigration round table after a sheriff commented about gangs. These aren't people. These are animals.

"We are taking them out of the country at a level and at a rate that's never happened before".

On Wednesday and Thursday, the Twittersphere (and much of the media) was up in arms about Trump allegedly referring to all immigrants - or at least all unauthorized immigrants - as "animals".

In its story, headlined "Trump Calls Some Unauthorized Immigrants "Animals" in Rant," The Times said that Trump had "lashed out at undocumented immigrants" and warned "in front of news cameras that risky people are clamoring to breach the country's borders and branding such people 'animals.'" It wasn't until the third and fourth paragraph of the story that The Times added context to Trump's remarks.

Politico Magazine's chief political correspondent Tim Alberta laid equal blame on "a media climate that feeds on outrage and speed" - and Trump's "history of using racially-charged language".

Trump's greatest mistake here was that he gave animals a worse rap than they deserve.

Ask Club About Damage - Antonio Conte On Chelsea Missing Top Four

Democratic lawmakers criticized the president for using that term toward immigrants.

Spokespeople for The New York Times, ABC News, NBC News, and CBS News did not respond to requests for comment.

The illegal immigrant gang has been responsible for some of the most horrific crimes to be committed in the United States, including decapitating and dismembering a man along with cutting out his heart, as the Washington Post reported late a year ago. The forum would coincide with a campaign fundraiser Trump is scheduled to headline in Manhattan Wednesday evening, according to a campaign email sent to his supporters last week.

CBS' Steven Portnoy and many of his industry peers found themselves on the receiving end of a rebuke by Mrs. Sanders this week after a question regarding Mr. Trump's labeling of MS-13 members as "animals". The president was specifically referring to members of the brutal MS-13 gang who are operating in and out of the U.S.

But White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders defended the president's comments, arguing the word "animals" didn't go far enough.

The hatred for Donald Trump in some corners of the left has now surpassed its hatred of even vile, disgusting, and, dare I say, animalistic cartels and murderers. "They're bringing drugs. They're bringing crime. If they don't reach a certain threshold, I can't tell ICE about it".

"Enforcement policies that include stalking courthouses and arresting undocumented immigrants, the vast majority of whom pose no risk to public safety, are neither safe nor fair". We have laws that are laughed at on immigration.
