THE HOUSE THAT JACK BUILT (2018) Movie Trailer: Lars Von Trier Creates A Serial Killer in Matt Dillon

The House That Jack Built Trailer Lars Von Trier

Danish film director Lars von Triers 'The House That Jack Built', about a serial killer, left some audience members "disgusted", prompting over 100 walkouts. You can check out a few Twitter reactions below.

Despite the walkout the film received a six-minute standing ovation, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

Talked to someone who walked out of the Lars von Trier film at Cannes: "He mutilates Riley Keough, he mutilates children... and we are all there in formal dress expected to watch it?" The film looks visually inventive, and I like the idea of Matt Dillon having a big role to sink his teeth into.

Warriors race past Rockets in Western Conference Finals opener
For a coach like Mike D'Antoni, who patented his seven seconds or less offense with the Suns, this team is the polar opposite. The Houston Rockets are allowing 38.3 percent shooting from deep and are grabbing 43.6 rebounds per game.

You just knew Lars Von Trier was going to stir up some drama with his grand return to Cannes (the filmmaker was banned for seven years as a "persona non grata" after making Hitler jokes while promoting Melancholia). However, Von Trier's movie led to more than 100 moviegoers leaving the theater before the movie was over because of the sadistic scenes, The Guardian reported.

Dozens of people walked out in disgust when The House That Jack Built premiered at Cannes, and while I can certainly understand their reasons, I was happy to stay all the way until the jaw-dropping ending. Gross. Pretentious. Vomitive. Torturous. That decision was greeted negatively in some quarters, with critics pointing to allegations made by the musician Björk, who said that Von Trier had sexually harassed her on the set of his film Dancer in the Dark. We follow the highly intelligent Jack through 5 incidents and are introduced to the murders that define Jack's development as a serial killer. Jack is telling Verge about five "incidents" he's picked from his murdering career, which seems to run through the 1970s in an unspecified USA town. He views each murder as an artwork in itself, even though his dysfunction gives him problems in the outside world. The House That Jack Built is an uncompromising, barbaric, distressing watch, and one very hard to stomach. As the inevitable police intervention is drawing nearer, he is taking greater and greater risks in his attempt to create the ultimate artwork.
