NASA to fly first helicopter on Mars

Уфологи обнаружили на Марсе мертвого пришельца принесенного в жертву

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is sending a helicopter to Mars.

"NASA has a proud history of firsts", said NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine.

The helicopter will be brought to Mars attached to the belly pan of the Mars 2020 rover.

Helicopter's small weight will give it an added bonus and help the light aircraft navigate the thin Martian atmosphere, notes Aung.

The remote-controlled Mars Helicopter, created to take flight in the thin Martian atmosphere with twin counter-rotating blades, weighs about four pounds (1.8 kilograms), with a fuselage the size of a softball, NASA said. It also has twin blades spinning ten times as fast as an average helicopter at 3,000 rpm.

NASA said the blades of the small helicopter, which has a softball-sized fuselage, would maintain an RPM of almost 3,000, about 10 times that of helicopters on Earth.

Swansea City Set To Part Company With Yet Another Manager
The crestfallen Swansea players were in marked contrast to Southampton's jubilant celebrations at the final whistle. This was a man who broke down barriers in terms of prejudice with his grace, poise and skill on the pitch.

But JPL has made sure that the Mars Helicopter has everything it needs to fearless the rough environment on the Red Planet. Now, it wants to prove that it can sustainably fly around the planet's thin atmosphere at low altitude - with a tiny helicopter.

When the Mars 2020 Rover lands on Mars, the Mars Helicopter will deploy from the bottom of the space probe.

The Mars 2020 vagabond is slated to introduce in addition to an Atlas V rocket, made by the United Release Partnership, from Cape Canaveral, Florida in July 2020.

The helicopter consists of solarcells to charge its lithium-ion batteries and also a heating mechanism to keep it warm throughout frigid evenings.

Thomas Zurbuchen, Associate Administrator for NASA's Science Mission Directorate, said the mission provided "a unique opportunity to advance Mars exploration for the future". But if it does work, helicopters could have a future as low-flying scouts and aerial vehicles to access locations not reachable by ground travel.

The rover will conduct geological assessments of its landing site on Mars, determine the habitability of the environment, search for signs of ancient Martian life, and assess natural resources and hazards for future human explorers. "We don't have a pilot and Earth will be several light minutes away, so there is no way to joystick this mission in real time", said Aung. This would be a 30-day test period that will include up to five flights.
