Police officers in North Haven, Connecticut were responding to a hostage situation when an explosion occurred.
A CT hospital says it's treating seven people who were injured when a barn exploded behind a house where police were negotiating with a man who had taken his wife hostage.
North Haven Police told CBS News they were investigating a domestic violence incident around 7 p.m. The officers were rushed to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries at around 8:30pm.
Freda also explained that police were responding to a report of a man barricaded in a house with his family and that officers were trying to get him out when the explosion took place near the back of the house. State police said the suspect had not yet been apprehended and called it an active situation.
First Selectman Michael Freda says the officers suffered cuts, abrasions and bruises, but their exact condition and that of the suspect and his family weren't immediately known.
The man then barricaded himself inside the house, triggering a massive police and SWAT team response.
