Morgan Stanley Cuts Allegiant Air (ALGT) Price Target to $169.00
In a statement responding to questions from "60 Minutes", Capt. Eric Gust, vice president of operations for Allegiant Air, said the airline is proud of its "strong safety record", and emphasized the airline's low cancellation rate, which "demonstrates our operational integrity and commitment to safety and reliability".
He said, "Employees conducting ground handling services at our airport are continually trained and retrained by Allegiant regarding safety measures and customer service".
According to the report, most of the mechanical issues can be attributed to Allegiant's fleet of around 30 MD80s which are an average of 28 years old, ancient by modern aviation standards. The planes will be in charge of all routes by the end of the year, coinciding with the removal of the remaining MD-80s from service.
"60 Minutes" said Allegiant is three-and-a-half times more likely to have serious mechanical problems than other USA airlines.
"Had anything been noted by the FAA that would have looked as though the airline was unsafe or was operating in a reckless fashion they would have suspended operations until everything was as it needed to be". Allegiant reported 0.0015 events per 1,000 departures system-wide between October 2017 and March 2018, Cantwell said, citing FAA figures.
Others, however, weren't concerned about the report. "So, there is no consistency".
"Allegiant's team members safely operate thousands of flights each week, which will transport more than 14 million passengers this year".
Passengers deplane from the first Allegiant flight to land at Sarasota Bradenton International Airport.
Allegiant Air ranks seventh and flies only about 3.5 percent out of the total folks flying out of Pittsburgh International. This unoriginal and outdated story bears no resemblance to Allegiant's operations today, and shows a fundamental misunderstanding of FAA compliance practice and history.
"I've used it several times to Phoenix and Vegas and have had zero issues", Gelderman said.
Steven Allen, an Allegiant pilot, also issued a statement saying he is "deeply offended by the accusations" in the story.
However, Surrey resident Laura Church, in an interview, said she experienced an emergency landing during a July 2015 Allegiant flight from Vegas to Bellingham that terrified her. Its stock took a nosedive Monday, prompting a company official to shoot back.
The airline has offered flights from Owensboro to Orlando-Sanford, Florida, since mid-February 2009. They said the story was based on outdated statistics - similar allegations were raised in 2016 by the Tampa Bay Times in Florida - and was prompted by a pilot who was sacked after ordering an emergency evacuation in which some passengers were injured.
