Persistent inclement weather has pushed the conclusion of the Food City 500 to Monday after rain continually delayed the NASCAR Cup Series race Sunday at Bristol Motor Speedway.

Larson's speed of 129.004 miles per hour put his No. 42 Chevrolet at the top of the scoring pylon in Saturday's opening session.

Rounding out the top 10 were AJ Allmendinger (126.204mph), polesitter Kyle Busch (126.129mph), Daniel Suarez (126.112mph), Kasey Kahne (126.079mph), and Jimmie Johnson (126.021mph). For NASCAR to consider the race official, the second stage (Lap 250) must be completed. Fellow Georgia native Chase Elliott (127.073 mph) posted the second quickest lap in the practice. The No. 41 team has to go to a backup auto and will forfeit their second place starting spot. Busch, who had qualified second, hit the inside wall on the backstretch and damaged the front end of his Ford. Missing the top 24 cut was Denny Hamlin with a lap speed average of 125.773 miles per hour.
