Officials in NO are weather aware of the possibility of strong storms
Some of these storms could be strong to severe, with gusty winds being the main threats although some small hail and even an isolated tornado is not out of the question.
More clouds but quiet conditions are possible later next week. A brief spin-up tornado can not be ruled out, but the majority of the storm damage will likely occur due to straight line thunderstorm winds.
This system has produced several tornadoes over the past couple of days across the deep-south, and while it is expected to weaken, our atmosphere is potent enough to support severe weather during the day Sunday. The winds will be mostly light tomorrow.
Winds could bring downed trees and power lines, the release states. Coastal Electric Coop reported 99 outages in Colleton County.
Impacts: A severe storm is possible at any point Saturday, but the risk of severe weather looks to be highest after 12PM.
Today is a Weather Alert Day for the potential for strong to severe storms arriving this evening. A warning means that action is required because of immediate threats. We had one tornado warning in Camden and Glynn Counties with no reports of any damage and several warned thunderstorms.
Some of the storms could bring some gusty winds, unsafe lightning and heavy rainfall. An isolated tornado is not out of the question. "Heavy rain totaling 2-4" possible.
The Live 5 First Alert Weather team declared Sunday a First Alert Weather Day because of the possibility of severe weather.
If you have to travel, make sure to check the weather conditions, watches, warnings and advisories before venturing out the door. Our WTXL First Alert Weather app can tell you if a storm near you has hail, strong winds or rotation.
