Sources informed that the bill will be promulgated through presidential ordinance
In a unanimous verdict, the Supreme Court of Pakistan on Friday ruled that any person declared dishonest and not righteous by it is disqualified from politics or holding public office for life.
A five-member bench delivered the verdict on the question of the period of the disqualification of a MP, Xinhua news agency reported.
Sharif, 68, a three-time former prime minister, was disqualified and removed from office a year ago on corruption allegations against his family.
The five-judge bench of the Supreme Court had grappled with Article 62 (1)(f) which only stated that a lawmaker is disqualified under specified conditions but did not set out the duration of the disqualification, reports PTI.
The ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) of Sharif rejected the verdict and said the former Prime Minister was "punished for eliminating terrorism and carrying out development projects". Sharif was dismissed from office last July on corruption charges, stemming from leaked documents known as the Panama Papers.
"This is the same (kind of) decision that led to the hanging of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, to the assassination of Benazir Bhutto and (then) to the disqualification of an elected Prime Minister (Nawaz)", she added.
State Minister for Information Marriyum Aurangzeb said decision against Nawaz Sharif was made first and the trials started later.
The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) hailed the ruling against Sharif.
On the occasion, the former lawmaker mixed up with the public amid a boisterous environment with slogans in his favour, however, the elder Sharif informed the audience that they should wait for his call.
