PA School District Gives Baseball Bats To Teachers To Fight Shooters

A Pennsylvania school district is taking steps to protect its students from mass shootings by arming its teachers with mini baseball bats.

"The advocacy demonstrated at the Capitol over the last eight days has produced admirable and historical results", said Shawnee superintendent April Grace, adding that her school district would reopen Thursday.

Hall told the news site, the goal was for every classroom to have one.

Amid debates over school safety in the aftermath of the Parkland school shooting, one Pennsylvania school district has chose to arm teachers without giving them guns.

The bats are just one of several measures created to increase student safety, Hall said.

Ann says that the project gives her the flawless way to support change in the classroom, and "it recognizes that every teacher is innovating at a different level, and the new coaching model allows [her] to meet that teacher at their level".

The school district, located just outside of Erie, has also implemented additional protections including extra security measures at the school entrances, according to the newspaper.

Raiders 2018 preseason schedule released

Nutrition workers for the Oklahoma City school district made cafeterias mobile to deliver food to hungry kids. "However, we do want to have a consistent tool to have at somebody's disposal in a classroom in the event they have to fight". However, Hall told Erie News Now that is not part of the plan at this juncture.

Though the buckets of rocks were not a direct response to the Parkland shooting, Helsel cited other school shootings, including at Virginia Tech and Columbine, as the inspiration for the move. They'll be put in areas throughout the school, notes the Times-News.

A school in Pennsylvania district is giving its teachers baseball bats as a mean to fight school shooter instead of "hiding and waiting".

Karen Munson, who has a son in eighth grade in the district, told ABC News she is completely in favor of having these bats in the classrooms.

The method is taught by the private Alice Institute in Medina, Ohio, which encourages shooting victims to throw things - books, chairs, whatever's handy - at a shooter if they can't escape or hide.

"Is this going to make the difference if we have an active shooter?"

"The teacher walkout has really inspired me", said Renee Jerden, a middle school choir teacher from Norman, who also filed for office.
