Defence Minister Avigdor Lieberman said the sniper deserved a medal - but that the soldier who filmed it should be demoted. He did not provide evidence for the assertions.

He worked on documentaries published on Al Jazeera and with the Chinese artist Ai Weiwei. His family strongly disputed Israel's allegations.

"The video isn't old", he said.

The U.S. State Department said on Tuesday the media production company co-founded by slain Gaza journalist Yasser Murtaja had recently received an $11,700 grant from the U.S. government.

The PA had argued at the time that its decisions were caused by Hamas collecting government revenues in Gaza without sending them back to the Ramallah-based authority, whereas Hamas has accused the PA of deliberately applying further economic pressure on the impoverished coastal territory, which has been under an Israeli-imposed blockade for almost 11 years.

In it, an Israeli commander can be heard ordering soldiers to open fire on unarmed Palestinians standing near the border fence. It says it has no choice but to use live ammunition against violent "rioters".

The Fatah-led Palestinian Authority has paid salaries to its West Bank employees this month but not those in Gaza, officials said on Monday, amid an ongoing split with the Strip's Islamist ruling party, Hamas.

Hamas' leader, Ismail Haniyeh, attended the funeral in a sign of respect.

Referring to Russian President Vladimir Putin , he added: "Everybody's going to pay a price - he will, everybody will". "He will. The Trump administration has also asked the United Nations Security Council to authorize an independent inquiry into the attack.

Analysts say cutting the salaries would seek to increase discontent in the Gaza Strip, putting more pressure on Hamas.

"We are dealing with someone who was active in the security apparatus's work on a daily basis and did much to help them", the unnamed defense officials said.

The State Department said Tuesday the grant was still in its early stages, and no equipment or technical assistance has been provided. We issued warnings in English and Arabic to the protesters urging them not to endanger themselves. Ain Media became a USAID program beneficiary last month under a program that supports private sector development.

When Murtaja was shot Friday, he was wearing a vest clearly marked "PRESS".

Hamas was "selling illusions", he said in a sermon on Friday, adding that the terror group was "trading in suffering and blood, trading in victims" so that it could make strong declarations on TV.

The Israeli military alleges the warnings were ignored and "a single bullet" was sacked towards one of the demonstrators, whereas Palestinians say the video shows they are being shot along the border while posing no threat to soldiers.

The strike came a day after the chief prosecutor for the International Criminal Court raised concerns that Israel and Hamas may have committed war crimes during the current spasm of violence.
