Poisoned ex-spy 'improving rapidly' after nerve-agent attack

As UNIAN reported earlier, United Kingdom police on Thursday issued a statement on behalf of Russian spy Sergei Skripal's daughter, the first since the pair were poisoned by a nerve agent in March.

Yulia Skripal, who's father Sergei Skripal remains in a critical condition, released a statement via British police overnight, expressing her gratitude to those who came to her aid.

Sergei Skripal "responding well" and his condition is "improving rapidly", said medical Director of the hospital in Salisbury Christine Blanchard, reports Sky News.

The Skripals were found March 4 on a park bench, she comatose, he awake but disoriented.

Britain's Pierce said Russia's 24 theories for the attack include blaming it on terrorists and saying Britain wanted to distract from Brexit, its departure from the European Union.

DEFRA told CNN that only one cat had been found on the property and offered no information about a possible second cat.

The meeting was called by Russian Federation to hold talks about the diplomatic fallout from the poisoning of the former double agent, Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia.

A British judge said last month, almost three weeks after the attack, that it might have left them with compromised mental capacity and that it was unclear whether they would recover.

Salisbury District Hospital where Sergei, 66, and Yulia, 33, have been receiving treatment for over a month, has now said the former double agent 'was responding well to treatment'.

Apple to add touchless gesture control and curved display to future iPhones
Apple wants to make sure iPad users know how to work with two apps at once, and also how an Apple Pencil can mark up screenshots. If you think the bezel-less iPhone X was the pinnacle of what Apple can achieve in smartphones, you may be wrong.

'I made this recording, that was Yulia, ' she said. Gary Aitkenhead of Porton Down Defence Laboratory, told Britain's Sky News analysts identified the poison as military-grade novichok, but couldn't verify if it was made in Russian Federation. Russian Federation vehemently denied the accusations and accused Britain of waging a deliberate defamation campaign.

It said Friday that a cat was also found "in a distressed state and a decision was taken by a veterinary surgeon to euthanize the animal to alleviate its suffering".

The Sun then reported that the two guinea pigs had died of dehydration, and the cat had had to be put down because of its condition, prompting another angry tweet from the embassy's press officer. He says requests for access to the Skripals have been repeatedly denied.

But the Foreign Office on Wednesday deleted a tweet from last month that said scientists at Britain's defense research facility, the Porton Down laboratory, had identified the substance as "made in Russian Federation".

Kelly Currie, U.S. deputy ambassador to the United Nations, voiced support for Britain's position, saying that the meeting was an attempt by Russian Federation "to use the Council for political gains".

In response, British Ambassador Karen Pierce said London had conveyed Russia's demand for consular access to the spy's daughter Yulia Skripal and that the British government had acted entirely properly within global convention. The Kremlin has repeatedly denied its involvement.

In response, more than two dozen Western allies including Britain, Australia, the United States and North Atlantic Treaty Organisation have ordered out over 150 Russian diplomats in a show of solidarity.

The poisoning has chilled relations between Russian Federation and the West, producing a wave of diplomatic expulsions unseen even at the height of the Cold War. "A lot of other countries might like to let the matter drop before it worsens relations with Russian Federation further, so Moscow's strategy may not be a joke", he added.
