UFC 223: Khabib vs. Iaquinta Results
With late replacement Max Holloway pulled from weighing in ahead of a proposed lightweight title fight, Al Iaquinta has signed on to fight Nurmagomedov in a five-round fight.
Holloway was deemed medically unfit to fight due to the extreme weight cut required for the short turnaround after he accepted the bout against Nurmagomedov on Sunday following an injury to Ferguson.
That means Holloway's fight against Khabib Nurmagomedov for the UFC's lightweight championship is off the card. Nurmagomedov is eligible to win the undisputed title; Iaquinta is not because he did not weigh in at 155 pounds (he came in at 155.2) on Friday morning. Anthony Pettis became the top candidate to replace Holloway, but that fell through because of a money dispute with the UFC.
UFC just officially announced Khabib vs Iaquinta tomorrow night and all the stips for the belt. Pettis weighed in at 155.2 pounds Friday and reportedly would be given two hours to shed the two-tenths of a pound needed to make weight.
In the co-main event, in a rematch for the women's strawweight championship, Rose Namajunas defends against former titleholder Joanna Jedrzejczyk. If Pettis is indeed Nurmagomedov's opponent, Helwani says it would be a three-round bout.
