Apple Is Planning Its First Education-Related Event Since 2012

The company has sent out invitations to an event to be held on 27 March 2018 at a Chicago high school. The location is Lane Tech College Prep High School on the city's north side.

Perhaps that'll mean some new low-end MacBook laptops (rumors still circulate that it plans to revamp the MacBook Air), or new iPads, which Apple seems convinced that students can use instead of laptops. This year's event will have a strong focus on education, but as far as if or what new gadgets will be revealed - there's only speculation.

It's an unusual locale for Apple as the company typically hosts media events closer to home in California.

The Williams Sisters rivalry continues Monday, 3 matches into Serena's comeback
The Williams family believed their treatment was racially motivated. "That's, you know, totally gone out of my mind". Now unseeded in Indian Wells , Serena has beaten her world No. 8-ranked sister 17 of the last 28 times .

Apple snuck in a little Friday surprise with an unexpected invite to a March 27 event. New iPads have been rumored for later this year as well, but it's unlikely that an education-focused iPad would include the new and expensive FaceID camera.

The last time Apple had an education-themed event was in January 2012, reports. Back in 2016, Apple released a new iPad Pro in the month of March that featured Apple Pencil support - a development that greatly increased the educational and creative potential of their popular tablet devices. (Although, it didn't have the Pro's True Tone technology.) This year Apple could release an even cheaper iPad that costs under $300.
