Jammu and Kashmir: Terrorist killed in Anantnag encounter hailed from Telangana

Mohammad Taufeeq, 26, was a native of Maguru in Telangana's Bhadradi Kothagudem district.

The killing of an out of the state militant is the second instance of its kind in Kashmir. "Further details are being verified and will be updated to the media accordingly", J&K DGP SP Vaid tweeted. Out of the three, two were identified as Eesa Fazli from Srinagar's Soura and Syed Owais from south Kashmir's Kokernag. The Qaeda's Kashmir unit is led by wanted militant leader Zakir musa.

The group had claimed that he was among the first to join their ranks and was known by the jihadi name of Sultan Zabul Al Hind and Abu Zarr Al Hindi.

Ghazwatul Hind on its website Al-Nasr, has claimed that the militant, who was not identified and declared as a foreigner by the police, was a resident of Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh. He reached the valley in 2017 and joined the outfit. "As of now, the third militant was a foreigner". A police officer handling the case said the militant's DNA has been preserved to help ascertain the identification process.

Counter-insurgency expert, Ajai Sahni, said that people from other parts of India joining militancy in Kashmir are "aberrations" and not frequent occurrences. "In three decades of Kashmir insurgency, number of occasions where youth from Indian cities joined Kashmir jihad is nearly negligible", Sahni said.
