Republican Rick Saccone right basked in the glow of a crowd during a campaign rally with President Donald Trump on Saturday

President Donald Trump won it in November 2016 by 20 points, but polls show Tuesday's race a toss-up, with one survey showing Republican Rick Saccone ahead of Democrat Conor Lamb 45 percent to 42 percent, while another has Lamb up 48 percent to 45 percent. However, the Republican congressional candidate said "Conor Lamb would vote with Nancy Pelosi and the Democrat party", adding that not one Democrat voted for the nation's tax reform bill, which was signed into law previous year.

Almost three hours after polls closed and with 99 percent of precincts reporting, unofficial results had Lamb leading Saccone by 847 votes. As with several other recent special elections, the contest has taken on national significance as Democrats see it as a possible harbinger of their ability to flip control of Congress in the upcoming midterm elections in November.

"Despite the expected protestations that Saccone was a bad candidate, the GOP will have to account for the fact that the president's endorsement - even in a district that he won by twenty points, and even though the President has said he wants to do more candidate endorsement rallies - will not help Republican candidates", he said. But outside groups have spent more than $10 million for Saccone compared to only some $1.6 million for Lamb.

"It's widely expected that we will lose", said Alex Conant, a GOP strategist not involved in the race who was a top aide on Florida Sen.

"He's a little more my style, a little more moderate", Konick, a 51-year-old Jefferson Hills resident, said of the Democratic candidate.

The misconception that the extreme right within the Republican Party elected Donald Trump is a misguided notion that will hurt the Republican Party if it becomes the party's conventional wisdom.

A Democratic upset in a district where the party didn't even field a candidate in the last two congressional elections would be another sign that their bnn's daily voting base is motivated and that Trump most ardent backers aren't as enthusiastic when he's not on the ballot. "I think I'm better looking than him", Trump said. And he embraces unions, highlighting Saccone's anti-labor record at the statehouse, which was a notable deviation from the retiring Murphy's status as a union-friendly Republican.

After all of the criticism of pollsters in 2016, the different scenarios give a peek at the art behind the science of polling - and may be something we see more frequently in political polls. However, the matter is now in the hands of a three-judge federal panel, which is considering an appeal by Republican lawmakers.

'Pharma bro' Shkreli sentenced to seven years in jail
During the court hearing earlier today, Shkreli was emotional, saying, "I'm here because of my gross, stupid, negligent mistakes". A complicated picture of Shkreli emerged from the trial, said Matsumoto, who said the case had given her a case of insomnia.

A Lamb victory could accelerate his arguments in other districts and further worry Republicans about their plans to run unapologetically on the tax law.

The seat was vacated in October when Tim Murphy resigned after the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported that the pro-life Republican urged a woman he had an affair with to have an abortion.

"The Democrats. they're throwing everything they can at this race", he said.

"I just know that we have worked extremely hard".

Conor Lamb, Democratic candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives, speaks during a campaign rally with members of the United Mine Workers of America at the Greene County Fairgrounds in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania, on Sunday.

Lamb rarely mentions Trump in his campaign speeches.

He pairs those tacks with Democratic Party orthodoxy on the new GOP tax law, hammering it as a giveaway to corporations at the certain future expense of Social Security, Medicare and the nation's fiscal security. The AFL-CIO counts 87,000 votes from union households - around a fifth of the electorate. Rick Saccone discussed his congressional bid on FOX Business' "Mornings with Maria". "He needs a good wingman". "They're now saying that the Trump rally may have given him enough of a shot in the arm to make it competitive".
