Cheerleaders may have been exposed to Mumps at national competition in Dallas

Health officials say that thousands of cheerleaders may have been exposed to mumps last month at the National Cheerleaders Association All-Star National Championship in Dallas, Texas.

"This letter is to inform you that you or your child may have been exposed to a person with mumps at the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) All-Star National Championship on February 23 to February 25, 2018 at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas, Texas".

The NCA said in a tweet that 23,655 athletes, 2,600 coaches from 39 states and nine countries attended the competition in Dallas.

Mumps is a virus that is spread by coughing, sneezing and direct contact with saliva, like eating or drinking after an infected person. Health officials advise people never to share glasses, utensils, cigarettes or other items, as that could also spread the virus.

Apple is making its own high-end noise-cancelling headphones
Apple purchased Beats for $3 billion in 2014 , and Beats has been Apple's main headphone brand until the introduction of AirPods. There's been no indication yet on when, if ever, Apple would release these headphones.

Mumps are a viral illness that are highly contagious, but have a preventative vaccine. Someone with mumps is infectious three days before to five days after swollen glands appear. Many people do not have any symptoms. Infected people without symptoms of mumps may still be able to transmit the virus. Adults who have not had two doses of MMR vaccine can receive the vaccine. The department has apparently received no reports of any follow-up cases of the mumps, but told the Post "the next few days will probably be telling" and that cheerleaders have been advised to look out for symptoms.

The Texas DHS says vaccines offer the "best protection", but vaccinated individuals can still become infected.

Health officials warned two Midlothian cheerleading groups they may have been exposed to the disease.
