UN Nuclear Watchdog: Iran-Accord Failure Would Be 'Great Loss'

Iran Japan

International Atomic Energy Agency director general Yukiya Amano said Iran was, as of today, "implementing its nuclear-related commitments" under the deal.

French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said that Iran must address global concerns over its ballistic missile program or risk new sanctions.

Zarif further accused the United States of failing to fulfill its commitments under the agreement.

Iran claims that it will continue its programs despite the pressure from the USA and other Western countries.

The future of the deal was thrown into doubt after US President Donald Trump said a year ago that he would quit the agreement unless the flaws in it were "fixed".

The French embassy had earlier said in a statement that an exhibition called "The Louvre in Tehran" will be held at the National Museum of Iran between March 5 and June 8 and inaugurated by Le Drian and Louvre's president Jean-Luc Martinez.

"Iran is an independent country and can defend itself in any way it sees fit whether with missiles or any other defensive means", Velayati told reporters in Tehran.

Besides, Europe should not allow the United States to pose "illogical and illegal" demands concerning Iran's nuclear deal, Zarif said.

Iran Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif criticized the European Union for what he described as "extremism" in relation with Tehran.

South Korea Is Sending Envoys To Meet North Korean Leader Kim Jong
Pyongyang claims its inter-continental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) can now hit the United States mainland. Five other working-level officials will also accompany the delegation on the trip.

Zarif warned that "any action to satisfy the party that has most violated the nuclear agreement is useless".

'The condition for negotiating Iran's missiles is the destruction of the nuclear weapons and long-range missiles of the United States and Europe, ' Iranian Armed Forces spokesman Masoud Jazayeri was quoted by the state news agency IRNA as saying.

Tehran supports Mr Al Assad against rebels, including groups backed by the West, and backs Hezbollah in Lebanon.

On February 13, French President Emmanuel Macron said Iran's ballistic missile program must be placed under worldwide surveillance.

According to the Iranian presidency's website, Rohani countered by telling Macron that countries selling weapons to Saudi Arabia and its allies must answer for "war crimes" being committed in Yemen.

A second French diplomat said:"While our concerns aren't directly linked to the nuclear deal, it's important we make progress on these other subjects because otherwise, Trump risks killing the deal".

During his stay, Le Drian is also expected to discuss bilateral ties.

Le Drian's visit was originally scheduled for January but was delayed due to a political crisis that saw several student-led mass street protests against the cleric-led government break out in dozens of Iranian cities.
