Steve added: "We were prepared for the poor weather when it swept in and have also been planning for the thaw and the bursts we knew it would inevitably cause".

It is estimated 5,000 homes in the county have had their supply cut off following the extreme changes in temperature. "We have a team in the area investigating and we hope to fix it as soon as possible", they tweeted.

"The thaw has seen our teams called out to an unprecedented number of leaks on our pipes in the Rugby and Southam areas which has put pressure on the network and meant some customers experienced low pressure or periodic interruptions to supply during Sunday evening".

Industry regulator Ofwat has criticised water companies for failing to plan for colder weather and ignoring warnings.

London's water collection points are located at Hampstead No 1 Pond Car Park in North London, and the Homebase on Woodgate Drive, Streatham Vale.
