Her involvement looked to have finished nearly before it begun when she clipped blades with Hungary's Andrea Keszler at the opening bend and was left grimacing in pain, lying prostrate up against the padded barrier.

"I'm not crying. I'm just coughing", Christie insisted Tuesday after the latest chapter of an Olympic career that's mixed physical pain and emotional turmoil.

In itself tonight was the flawless manifestation of Christie's Games.

February 21 2014: Christie's calamitous Winter Games comes to an end as she is disqualified again after tangling with China's Jianrou Li on the final bend of their 1000m semi-final. She did, and managed to come through in second place.

Christie was disqualified from the women's 1,000m short track speed skating heats, ending her hopes of winning a Winter Olympic medal in Pyeongchang.

While Christie's medal hopes were dashed on Saturday, Great Britain won its first medal in skiing at the Winter Olympics, with Izzy Atkin taking bronze in the ski slopestyle final.

But Christie arrived at PyeongChang 2018 battle hardened. She is a different athlete from what she was four years ago (in Sochi).

It has been there ever since Christie's schooldays in Livingston, near Edinburgh, when she was called a "skeleton" for her pale features and treated as an outsider because of her passion for an alien sport.

She shook off fitness concerns, having been carried off on a stretcher at the weekend, to take her place on the start line in the last-chance saloon. "I feel deeply disappointed for her but for Elise, the whole of Team GB are incredibly proud of her - to show the guts and determination to come back to make that start line, that's been a tough 48 hours".

Meet Woody, Buzz Lightyear this summer at Toy Story Land
Visiting guests will "shrink" to the size of a toy and join in on the fun with Woody, Jessie, Buzz and Andy's other beloved toys. The Walt Disney World Resort announced today that its new Toy Story Land will open on June 30 at Disney's Hollywood Studios .

Christie, who was disqualified in all three of her events at Sochi 2014 was hailed as fearless for competing despite an ankle injury preventing her from her best. "I know how many people have tuned in to see that and I thought, "I'm going to give it my best shot".

"To be honest I'm not really concerned about that", he said.

"I've never had a yellow card in my life, and I rarely get penalties".

If she's bumped and bruised, Christie isn't quitting anytime soon.

"I thought "just do what you can do" and I thought "I'll move up" and I moved up".

"The only thing I can say is that I promise Britain I will fight back from this". "I was nowhere near as stressed here as the World's previous year. I'm devastated that I couldn't".

Desperate - and bloody-minded - to progress and keep her dreams alive, the world champion again dove for inside lane to gain a place and snuck in to take second place behind Lara Van Ruijven - but whilst making contact with both her competitors.

"I would just like to thank all the kids who have sent me messages saying they are inspired".
