Olympic skier Gus Kenworthy gave his boyfriend a kiss before heading down the slopes at the 2018 Winter Olympics on Saturday, February 17 - and what was most likely a simple moment for them spoke volumes to others.
U.S. skier Gus Kenworthy sustained some unlucky injuries at the Winter Olympics. I've certainly never seen a athlete gay kissing his boyfriend. "But I think it's important in sports, where we have pretty minimal representation, to kind of stand beside each other and make sure that our impact can be great". "But I think that's incredible, that's something that I wanted at the last Olympics was to share a kiss with my boyfriend at the bottom but I was too scared to do it for myself", Kenworthy told the media, as quoted by Reuters. And that's definitely not something I had as a kid.
Among the ones to greet the Sochi Olympic silver medallist, who finished 12th after suffering a finger injury in Pyeongchang, was pop icon Britney Spears.
Gus Kenworthy is currently enjoying himself now that he doesn't have to focus on competing in Pyeongchang, South Korean himself. "It shouldn't feel like a big deal and yet it does". Kenworthy wrote on Instagram.
"That also made it easier", the 26-year-old Olympian said. Being here now, out and proud and living my life authentically, I'm walking away more fulfilled without a medal that I did at the last Games with one.
"I definitely felt like I had a lot of pressure on me just because I was a returning medalist and I did come out and there was a lot of speculation in interviews and publicity that surrounded it and had a few really solid competition years since then", Kenworthy said.
