Amazon Is Promising Big Credit Card Benefits To Whole Foods Shoppers

Whole Foods Grocery

In partnership with Chase bank, the company announced on Tuesday, Feb. 20 that Amazon Prime members who are Amazon Prime Rewards Visa cardholders will receive 5 percent cash back when they shop at Whole Foods. The announcement offers an opportunity to remind everyone about Prime, the fact Amazon offers a Visa card, Whole Foods, and the very generous "5 percent back" offer.

Discount retailer Target Corp already offers a REDcard credit card that gives shoppers 5 percent off purchases at its own stores. When the Amazon-Whole Foods deal closed a year ago, Amazon Worldwide Consumer CEO Jeff Wilke noted that Amazon plans to "make Amazon Prime the customer rewards program at Whole Foods Market". And one way to do that is by enticing more Amazon Prime members into Whole Foods stores.

After the acquisition a year ago, Amazon Worldwide Consumer CEO Jeff Wilke said that the company is planning to "make Amazon Prime the customer rewards program at Whole Foods Market". Additionally, there is also a new Whole Foods online storefront on Amazon's websites.

And earlier this month, Amazon said it will start delivering groceries from Whole Foods via its two-hour Prime Now delivery service. Amazon opened pop-up stores this past holiday season at Whole Foods locations with opportunities for customers to try out devices and learn more about Prime.

Amazon has added yet another perk to its $99-per-year Prime membership scheme. Amazon's call for a new inventory management system resulted in fewer items on the shelves. The Prime fast-shipping program will be at the heart of it.
