Apple admits HomePod leaves wooden furniture with a unusual white ring

16 February 2018, 04:48 | Yvette Williams

Apple's HomePod is marking up furniture, and the internet isn't happy

The bulk of the Apple’s HomePod’s costs come from the internal speaker technology including the many microphones tweeters the woofer and the power management components

Other websites also posted their own guides on the functionalities of Apple's smart speaker.

For those sitting on the fence on whether to take the plunge and buy HomePod, we provide you with two completely different takes on the sexy little smart speaker. iJustine is one big HomePod ad that's bright and bubbly. Here are a few tip that the Cupertino giant has published for the HomePod users. This is how all consumer tech should work today. It seems the circular marks are a result of the HomePod's silicon base interacting with certain oils used as a finish on wood furniture. What that means to non-audio geeks is that if you close your eyes and listen, even walking around the room, you don't get echoes or a sense of enclosing walls; instead there's a broad soundstage producing faint guitar plucks and subtle voice qualities. If so, that could hamper Apple's efforts to catch up to less expensive internet-connected speakers from Amazon and Google that had a head start in the still nascent market.

According to TechInsights, it appears as though Apple is selling the HomePod with a slightly less profit margin on goal.

Funnily enough, while the white ring might not stain Apple's image in the long run, the numerous amusing tweets and jokes that the Internet's collective hive mind came up with will live on.

Fed Cup: Serena Williams loses on return to competition
Serena had previously said that her path back had been full of "ups and downs", crediting Venus with helping her regain her rhythm.

I can't believe I have to say this (actually, at this point when it comes to Apple, nothing really surprises me), but you should probably put a coaster under your HomePod before you place it on that heirloom bedside table. Don't use ammonia, abrasives, window cleaners, clean the HomePod and don't place the power cord where it can be stepped on.

A number of people who bought the just-released £319 speaker are reporting that it leaves a white ring on the surfaces of wooden furniture.

Similarly, the HomePod, or more accurately Siri, has impressive chops for quickly deciphering which Apple device you're speaking to and responding correctly, most every time. We placed our Apple HomePod on our MDF TV stand and it left a white ring behind, but we were able to remove the mark with a damp cloth. The HomePod is finally on sale around the world, and although it's gathered mostly positive reviews so far, owners are complaining about annoying new flaw.
