WhatsApp Business app for Android is now here. Here are all your questions answered about the app
Today a new app called WhatsApp Business has launched on Android, and while it's mostly the same WhatsApp we're already familiar with, it comes with a handful of enhancements for business users. A part of its WhatsApp for Business initiative that was first officially announced back in September a year ago and tested with businesses like BookMyShow and MakeMyTrip in India since, the new app for SMEs is now available to download via Google Play in Indonesia, Italy, Mexico, the United Kingdom, and the US.
With over a billion users across the world, WhatsApp is one the most popular messaging services available. Interestingly, existing WhatsApp users don't require any special privileges to be able to contact businesses. WhatsApp Business is a separate app for business owners that allows them to manage their business profile, access messaging statistics and use some unique tools. Additionally, you'll also be able to see metrics for the number of your messages which have been read in order to see what is working and what's not.
"With the app, businesses can interact with customers easily by using tools to automate, sort, and quickly respond to messages". That said, WhatsApp Business is also accessible through WhatsApp Web, and, for those unaware, it is actually a standalone app which means you can have both regular WhatsApp as well as WhatsApp Business on the same phone.
WhatsApp Business as the name suggests plans to make simpler for smaller medium businesses to connect with the customers
"WhatsApp Business will make it easier for people to connect with them, and vice versa, in a fast and simple way", the company said. Business can provide their business description, email or store addresses, and website to show on the profile. Also, users will get quick replies to certain common frequently asked questions and greeting messages which introduce a business to a customer.
Designed primarily for small start-ups and SMEs, WhatsApp Business is available now on the Android platform. If a business starts spamming you on WhatsApp, which can happen in a place like India, there will also be the option of reporting spam. Even so, there might be a rise in annoying messages from random businesses in the future and there's not much the company can do to stop that.
The Business App seems like the foundation stone to the bigger enterprise solution that WhatsApp plans to create. It isn't available in India as of now but we can expect it to arrive in the next few weeks.
