Jordan: 50 MPs demand ambassador be recalled from Israel

Roughly 500,000 Israelis currently live on more than 100 Jewish-only settlements built since Israel occupied the West Bank and East Jerusalem in 1967

Roughly 500,000 Israelis now live in more than 100 Jewish-only settlements that have been built since Israel occupied the West Bank and East Jerusalem in 1967.

The 315 signatories covered the gamut of religious streams, including Orthodox, Reform, Conservative and Reconstructionist clergy, according to J Street, the liberal Middle East policy group that initiated the letter.

The French Foreign Ministry said in a statement that France condemned the decisions taken by the Israeli authorities "to allow the construction of more than 1,100 homes in 20 different settlements in the West Bank, and particularly that of seven structures in Nativ Haavot [a West Bank settler outpost] partly on private Palestinian land against the decision of the High Court of Justice, which had ordered its evacuation by March 2018".

J Street and its student affiliate, J Street U, launched a campaign past year to prevent the demolition of Palestinian homes.

One of the Palestinians, aged 16, was reportedly shot near the Palestinian village of Burin in the Nablus area; the other was reportedly killed during violent riots at the Bureij refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip.

Rabbi Raziel Shevach, a father of six children and resident of Havat Gilad, was shot multiple times in his neck and upper body in a drive-by shooting attack.

Trump's December 6 announcement that he would move the U.S. Embassy from Israel's commercial capital to Jerusalem reversed decades of U.S. foreign policy and upset Palestinians and the worldwide community alike. Hamas praises the killers and PA (Palestinian Authority) laws will provide them financial rewards. "Look no further to why there is no peace".

A shooting that killed an Israeli settler on Tuesday in the West Bank led to fresh calls for further settlement building, though the plans approved yesterday were already in the works.

On Tuesday, the Israeli Ministry of Defence said the Palestinian Authority had paid out 1.2 billion shekels ($350 million) past year in such payments.

Israeli Education Minister Naftali Bennett tweeted that the terrorists that killed Raziel "knew how much money they would receive for the murder".

Hundreds of Jewish settlers attacked a number of Palestinian villages in the vicinity of the West Bank city of Nablus on Wednesday, in retaliation for the killing of a settler.

The approvals were given on Wednesday by a Defense Ministry committee with responsibility for settlement construction, AFP reported.

But for Palestinians, such payments are a key source of income for families who have in many cases lost their main breadwinner. The Palestinians claim the territory as part of their future state.
