Police are searching for a woman and her boyfriend in connection with the death of a 4-year-old MI girl who was found with severe burns, WDIV reported.
Michigan State Police told WWJ U.S. Marshals located 24-year-old Candice Diaz and 28-year-old Brad Fields on the run near the Georgia-Florida line.
Sumpter Township police officials said last week officers were called to a residence on Greenmeadow Drive in the Rawsonville Woods Mobile Home Community on Rawsonville Road near Willow Road to respond to reports of an unresponsive 4-year-old girl.
The Washtenaw County (Mich.) Medical Examiner ruled the death a homicide with evidence of multiple traumatic injuries and battered-child syndrome - meaning she suffered multiple injuries, at multiple sites, at multiple ages.
In May 2016, Fields was arrested and charged with aggravated domestic violence after Diaz accused him of assaulting her multiple times and shooting her dog.
Diaz and Fields are facing murder, torture and child abuse charges.
WDIV reported that the girl's January 1 death was not the first time police have been called to the couple's mobile home.
In 2006, Fields pleaded guilty to carrying an unauthorized concealed weapon and served a year of probation. "When Gabby came over, she never had any marks or bruises on her", she said. It's unclear whether Fields is the child's father.
"She seemed OK, playing outside with the other kids", he said. "She was just an outgoing kid", she said.
