2018 CES: Toyota e-Palette concept

Other companies and startups have begun to explore the concept of modular electric-and-autonomous vehicles.

The vehicle will come in three sizes and is created to be used for a variety of purposes, including freight and package delivery, ride-sharing, and mobile offices and storefronts.

Akio Toyoda, president of Toyota Motor Corporation, told attendees at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas on Monday that self-driving cars will muddy distinctions between brick-and-mortar and online commerce.

The core of the system is the new "e-Palette Concept Vehicle", which basically looks like a small bus.

In addition, Toyota will provide an array of services to help e-Palette customers use their vehicles, including leasing and insurance support and fleet management. Pizza delivery vehicle by day, Uber ride-sharing vehicle by night.

Toyota hopes to use the e-Palette during and Olympic and Paralympic Games in Tokyo in 2020. Toyota says it'll kick off feasibility testing of the e-Palette Concept in various regions across the world, including in the USA, in the early 2020s. "Today", said Toyota CEO Toyoda, "you have to travel to the store". Each e-Palette is also created to be shared between businesses and to quickly transition between applications.

SpaceX launches secret satellite Zuma on 1st flight of year
SpaceX officials said Thursday evening that the launch is targeted for Sunday with the two-hour launch window opening at 8 p.m. The Falcon heavy, capable of carrying a payload of more than 54 tons, will set off from the Kennedy Space Centre in Florida.

When commercialized, the e-Palette type of vehicle is expected to offer "level 4" autonomous driving capability, which is called by the industry "high automation". Proponents contend the technology will reduce congestion and improve highway safety, among other things.

It can be pimped out with purpose-built interiors that will differ depending on use.

In the future, you won't go to shops; instead, shops will come to you.

The team behind the e-Palette celebrates the debut of the new vehicle at CES.

Toyota intends to make the vehicle available in three sizes.

Toyota is working with Amazon, ride-hailing organizations Uber and Didi, automaker Mazda, and Pizza Hut to build up an electric self-ruling transport that can be utilized to convey individuals-or the bundles they've requested-to their goal. If that's the case, it's hard to see how Toyota's mobility concept will have much application outside self-contained environments like college campuses or retirement communities. Not at all like different automakers that may have drivers hit a catch to change all through full self-governing mode, Toyota would have it work noiselessly out of sight.
