Mavs coach Rick Carlisle bashes LaVar Ball for criticism of Luke Walton
08 January 2018, 03:11 | Kristopher Drake
He said Walton is too young to coach and "has no control" of the team - comments that Walton said didn't bother him, but ones that clearly angered some of his National Basketball Association coaching colleagues.
Even with starting point guard Lonzo Ball back in the lineup after an 11-day injury absence, the Lakers (11-27) simply couldn't hit shots to begin the game, which bled into their defense.
But Walton said he has spoken to team executives, and has received assurances that his job is safe. "Nobody wants to play for him".
Despite the fact that he said he didn't have a problem with his coaching earlier this season, he clearly does. Our coaches are upset because Luke Walton does not deserve that.
The response was far from a ringing endorsement of Walton and could be perceived to be the opposite.
Ball made the comments to ESPN from Lithuania, where he is helping his two younger sons settle in playing for BC Vytautas.
With those two responses, Ball called into question his support of the Lakers' Head Coach.
"He's going to speak his mind", Lonzo Ball said of his father.
"They're soft. They don't know how to coach my son", he said of the Lakers in November, per Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report. "My only concern with any of it is for Zo".
Had he lost the locker room? I can see it. We've been through a hard stretch. "We're going through that now".
Ball didn't specify why he believes winning a championship with the Lakers would be so important for LeBron's legacy, but he said adding James to a team that includes his sons Lonzo and LiAngelo would be an automatic recipe for a title. The press is going to make it out like I'm trying to demean them or they're trying to demean me. Only one way, to say every team I've gone to I've won a championship. "That's what they do.' And it's our job as coaches and an organization to do what's best for our team and our players". "They're 100% behind and supporting what we're doing". "What I love about [Johnson] is just the communication that we have as a family and as friends to fix the situation they're just solutions that we throw off each other".
