Trump Blasts CNN After Top Aide's Heated Interview
Earlier on Sunday, the administration continued its assault on Bannon, with Donald Trump's senior policy adviser, Stephen Miller, saying in a heated interview on CNN that comments by Bannon in the new book were "out of touch with reality,"vindictive" and "grotesque".
Miler said of the book: "The book is best understood as a work of poorly written fiction".
Miller called Wolff a "garbage author of a garbage book" and also called Steve Bannon, the Breitbart chief and former Trump chief of staff, an "angry and vindictive person". He's referring to comments that Bannon had made in the Wolff book, saying that a meeting Trump campaign officials and a Russian lawyer during the presidential campaign were "treasonous" and "unpatriotic".
When Tapper tried to get him back on track to talk about the meeting, Miller replied, 'I have no knowledge of anything to do with that meeting'.
Throughout the interview, Miller repeatedly praised Trump's political prowess, knocking the "so-called political geniuses in Washington" who didn't predict the populist Republican's ascent.
What began as a routine interview on his show, State of the Union, quickly turned into a battle to be heard, with Tapper trying to fit in his questions as Miller shouted over him with increasing anger.
White House senior policy adviser Stephen Miller appears during a televised interview with CNN'sJake Tapper on January 7, 2018.
In the book, Bannon predicted that the special counsel investigating possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation would "crack" the younger Trump "like an egg on national TV".
Wolff was granted unusually wide access to the White House during much of Trump's first year at the behest of former Trump strategist Steve Bannon, who advised the president during his first months in office and during his presidential campaign. 'Watch the hatred and unfairness of this CNN flunky!' "I think I've wasted enough of my viewers' time", Tapper said before shifting to another topic.
Miller also argued that the president's Saturday tweets, in which he boasted about his "mental stability" and IQ, were helpful in arguing the point that he had the fortitude to do the job.
In a statement provided to the political website Axios, Bannon, who left the White House in August, said Trump's son, Donald Trump Jr.
Wolff has said the book was based on White House access, conversations with Trump and interviews with senior staffers, including Bannon. "You're being obsequious, you're being a factotum in order to please him, OK?"
