Chiefs' home playoff curse continues in embarrassing loss to Titans

07 January 2018, 05:50 | Kristopher Drake

Titans receiver Eric Decker, who had been having a rough game, reeled in a 22-yard catch in the end zone to give Tennessee a 22-21 lead at Kansas City.

The NFL playoffs get started Saturday with a doubleheader starting in Kansas City, where the Chiefs will try to beat Tennessee for their first home postseason win in almost a quarter century.

Kansas City linebacker Derrick Johnson raced to the end zone with the apparent fumble for a touchdown, but it was overturned as officials deemed Henry was down and the play complete before Johnson scooped up the ball. The two-point conversion attempt failed - and almost brought disaster for the Titans when Mariota was sacked, but officials ruled he was down before the ball came loose.

Kansas City converted on third-and-6 early in the drive, when the Titans called timeout in hopes of getting the ball back, then moved effortlessly downfield the rest of the way.

Rolling to the left away from pressure, Mariota threw into the end zone right at the line of scrimmage.

Marcus Mariota proved Gisele Bundchen wrong.

Henry started for the second consecutive game in place of DeMarco Murray, who is sidelined by a knee injury.

The Bills visit the Jaguars and the Panthers visit the Saints on Sunday, and the outcome of those games will determine whom the winners on Saturday will face next week.

It was his second career touchdown catch. The drive stalling gave the Chiefs the ball back with a little under two minutes left.

Two of the Titans' best wins of the seasons came in Weeks 2 and 3-a 37-16 win over Jacksonville, followed by a 33-27 win over Seattle-which saw Tennessee squash their opponents' run game to the tune of just 168 rushing yards combined.

Henry had a career-high 132 rushing yards and a score on 21 carries, essentially icing the game with a 22-yard run after a tremendous block by Mariota to spring him for the first down.

Chiefs All-Pro tight end Travis Kelce left the game late in the first half after a hit by Titans' Johnathan Cyprien.

But replay showed Henry was clearly down by contact.

This wasn't the prettiest season for the Titans, and a big reason for that has been the uneven play of Marcus Mariota.
