Jimmy Iovine Set To Depart Apple Music In August
Jimmy Iovine has helped Apple Music reach 30 million paid users, nearly half way to Spotify's 70 million monthly paid subscribers. Now that the shares from that rumored $3 billion sale are set to be vested, Jimmy is rumored to be on the way out. He went on to run major music labels, including Interscope records.
Music-focused site Hits Daily Double was the first to report on Iovine's purported departure this coming August. Iovine was a key proponent of Apple's iTunes and the iPod, two products that drastically altered the music industry's direction in the 2000s.
Until Apple or Iovine confirm the upcoming departure, however, it's best to take rumors and reports with a grain of salt.
Apple Music executive Jimmy Iovine is reportedly planning to depart from Apple in August, according to the latest media reports. Last year, there were reports that Iovine would head the company's move into video, but he hasn't had a big role in Apple's original TV shows push, which is supervised by former Sony executives Jamie Erlicht and Zack Van Amburg, who also report to Cue, notes Recode.
'Game of Thrones' final season won't premiere until 2019 Game Of Thrones bosses have confirmed the final season will not air until 2019, and when it does come it will be short and sweet. Showrunners David Benioff and DB Weiss announced in 2016 it would finish with 13 episodes spread over a final two seasons.
"We created Apple Music to make finding the right music easier for everyone - men and women, young and old", said Apple and Iovine in a statement. It has 30 million paying subscribers, but Spotify has 70 million.
"A music service needs to be more than a bunch of songs and a few playlists", Iovine said in an interview early a year ago. Curiously enough, Iovine was never given a specific title during his time with Apple although it is largely assumed that he is in charge of Apple Music.
Iovine is a reputed and respected name in the music industry, boasting an impressive track record. Apple declined to comment.
