Padmavati: CBFC Finally Certifies The Film, But Only On These Conditions Including Changing The Title!

The Indian censor board has asked the filmmakers of the mega budget Bollywood movie, Padmavati, to make 26 cuts and change its title.

The special panel that watched the film along with the examining commitee of the CBFC consisted of a royal, Arvind Singh from Udaipur and historians Dr Chandramani Singh and Prof KK Singh of the Jaipur University.

Central Board of Film Certification, wants the movie's title to be modified as "Padmavat" on the basis of the attributed material/creative source.

The film got stuck in controversy after various Rajput groups alleged that it distorts history, a claim repeatedly denied by the director. Though the producers have not issued a statement yet, a senior executive at Viacom 18, which has produced the film, told Mirror that Bhansali and the banner will adhere to the suggested alterations and the editing of the film will commence immediately. Furthermore, the filmmaker has been suggested to change the title of the film.

The Bollywood film, which was slated to be released on December 1, was indefinitely postponed by a studio run by a partnership of Viacom and Network 18 owned by Mumbai's Reliance Industries. The panellists had some reservations regarding the claimed historical events & socio-cultural aspects of the film, which were duly discussed at length, CBFC claims.

Haryana's Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Chief Media Coordinator Suraj Pal Amu had grabbed the headlines nationwide after he announced a bounty of Rs 10 crore for beheading film Padmavati's actress Deepika Padukone and director Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Though they have not seen the movie, leaders of the Karni Sena and several politicians say the queen, Padmini has been disrespected by Sanjay Leela Bhansali in his movie as she is romantically involved with Muslim invader Alauddin Khilji.

The movie had angered a group called the Karni Sena in Rajasthan and other Rajput groups. "Members of the committee formed to review the film have opposed it but the censor board is taking this decision due to underworld pressure". There will be "relevant" modifications in the song Ghoomar "to befit the character portrayed". In March, unidentified people vandalised the movie sets in Maharashtra's Kolhapur district.
