Two men have been arrested in connection with the brutal murder of two women and two children in upstate NY this week.
"After being in this business for almost 42 years, I can say I have not seen savagery like this", Police Chief John Tedesco said in a news conference Wednesday afternoon.
Troy police said the victims were two women, aged 36 and 22, and the older woman's 11-year-old son and 5-year-old daughter, according to The Record, a Troy newspaper. One of the women was found dead on a mattress on the floor while the other was nearby, face down and covered with a sheet.
Police Chief James Tedesco described the slayings as an act of "savagery" and that further details about the gruesome deaths would be released to the public at this time. It wasn't until Tuesday, five days later, that a property manager found 36-year-old Shanta Myers; her children, 11-year-old Jeremiah Myers and 5-year-old Shanise Myers; and 22-year-old Brandi Mells in a basement apartment along the Hudson River, just north of Albany.
Mann, left, and James W. White have been arrested on murder charges in the deaths of two women and two children in their Troy apartment on December 26, 2017.
"After being in this business for nearly 42 years, I can't describe the savagery of this", Tedesco told reporters Wednesday. Police responded to the building on Second Avenue in Troy, a city eight miles northeast of Albany, about 12:50 p.m. Police say the women were in a relationship. She was part of the class of 2013, but did not return for her senior year, he said. He says Shanta Myers had worked as a bus monitor and her children were active in youth programs.
"I don't have to tell you what a good feeling it is to have these two in custody", he said. He called the murders "an act of savagery" and said the officers involved in the case would not be able to forget the brutal crime scene.
Symes says Myers' older son has been living with her for about two months. Also killed was Myers' partner, Brandi Mells. No suspect has been identified publicly.

Sam Darnold gives Browns hope - with a reservation
With Kizer not looking like the team's long-term option at quarterback, Darnold would be the ideal addition for Cleveland. According to Schefter, Rosen is wary of coming out in the draft if the Browns appear to be close to committing to him.
