Donald Trump Lashes Out at Vanity Fair Over Viral Hillary Clinton Video
President Donald Trump on Thursday weighed in on a viral Vanity Fair video that received backlash online for comments a writer made about 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.
Vanity Fair's political vertical The Hive is being slammed after the site posted a video in which staff talk about Hillary Clinton.
Instead, it suggests that she should take more photos in the woods, because "how else are you going to meet unsuspecting hikers?" and take up a new hobby in the New Year - like "volunteer work, knitting, or improv comedy...".
While the majority of the replies to the video decried it as sexist and mean-spirited, some attributed it to Vanity Fair's attempt to be "edgy," or amusing - albeit, even those Twitter users said the jokes mostly fell flat.
"Vanity Fair, which looks like it is on its last legs, is bending over backwards in apologizing for the minor hit they took at Crooked H", the president tweeted.
However, Twitter commenters accused Vanity Fair of using veiled sexism to criticize the first woman ever to secure a presidential nomination from a major USA political party, according to The Washington Post.
But she is also the artistic director of parent company Conde Nast, which publishes both titles.
Actress Patricia Arquette replied: "Hey STOP TELLING WOMEN WHAT THE F*** THEY SHOULD DO OR CAN DO".
Mr Trump and White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders have also been targets of the apparent attempt at light-hearted Christmas content. "Get over your mommy issues". They mock the first woman to ever win the popular vote in a general election?
But three days later, after the holiday had passed, one line in the video became the focus of intense criticism.
"So @VanityFair decided that the best way to end 2017 was to take a repulsive cheap shot at @HillaryClinton, one of the most accomplished women in the history of the United States".
Kosoff, meanwhile, has been met with an avalanche of vitriol for her role in the gag, prompting her to make her Twitter account visible only to those she allows to see it.
Carter seemed to take the ridicule in stride. This wasn't a Hillary hit piece either, FWIW! We made silly New Year's resolutions for a bunch of politicians.
