Serena Williams to make comeback in Abu Dhabi next week

Serena set to return to tennis in Abu Dhabi exhibition against Ostapenko

Williams's readiness for Grand Slam intensity, a little over three months after the birth of her first child, will become more apparent to her in Abu Dhabi. Former world number one Serena Williams will make a surprise comeback at the Mubadala exhibition event in Abu Dhabi next Saturday, as she gears up for her Australian Open title defence in January.

In September, Serena had revealed that she had set an "outrageous" goal of making a comeback at the Australian Open, something which will push her Grand Slam total to an all-time record-tying 24 titles.

The Mubadala World Tennis Championship was first staged in 2009 but Williams' clash against Ostapenko will be the first women's match to feature at the event.

Serena Williams will make her return to court at the Mubadala World Tennis Championship against French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko, organisers announced on Sunday.

Now, Alexis is 3 months old, totally adorable, and enjoying her first Christmas with her family. Williams and Ostapenko will be the first women to play in the tournament, which started in 2009.

'I look forward to seeing the fans in Abu Dhabi at the 10th edition of the Championship very soon'.

"Last season was really incredible for me and I can not wait to continue the start of my new season at such an wonderful event".

Williams has been targeting a return for that same tournament, which is just a few weeks away, and now it has been confirmed that she will take part in a warm-up tournament.

The 12-time Grand Slam champion has not played competitively since his quarter-final loss to Tomas Berdych at Wimbledon because of an elbow injury.
