Elderly Couple Busted With 60 Pounds of Christmas-Present Cannabis

Merry Kushmas: Elderly couple caught with 27kg of Christmas cannabis

According to York County officials, the Jirons claimed they meant to give the bags of marijuana to family and friends for Christmas this year.

York County Sheriff's Deputies pulled over a pickup truck Tuesday after it failed to use a blinker and drifted over the center line, and were met by the potent scent of raw marijuana wafting out of the veichle.

An elderly couple had an interesting excuse for the sixty pounds of marijuana police found in their vehicle.

Patrick Jiron, 80, and his wife, Barbara Jiron, 70, were traveling from California to Vermont, according to the York News-Times, when they were pulled over in York, Nebraska.

A canine unit was called in and the dog alerted to the presence of a controlled substance, so deputies searched the vehicle and found the marijuana in boxes inside the bed of the truck.

Facebook launches new facial recognition and privacy features
Facebook had launched an automatic alt-text tool two years ago, which describes photos to people with vision loss. He said the new feature give users more control by informing them when their photo has been posted.

"[The couple] said the marijuana was for Christmas presents", said Lt. Paul Vrbk in an interview with the York News-Times. When they looked under the pickup topper, deputies found 60 pounds of marijuana, as well as multiple containers of concentrated THC.

The drugs have a street value of more than $300,000.

Marijuana is illegal in Nebraska, even though a handful of states, including California and Nebraska's neighbour Colorado, have legalised the drug for recreational use.

The couple was being held in York County jail, but Barbara was later released "due to some medical issues", reports the York News-Times. Patrick Jiron posted 10 percent of his $100,000 bond and has been released from custody.
