Reports: Atletico To Report Barca For Griezmann Approach

Manchester United was reportedly interested in signing the France global in the offseason, before he extended his contract by one year.

Barcelona-based sports daily Mundo Deportivo reported on Sunday that Barca's president Josep Maria Bartomeu had recently met with Griezmann's family.

The striker is one of Europe's biggest stars and extended his contract with Atletico during the summer until June 2022.

Atletico Madrid has reported Barcelona to Federation Internationale de Football Association over an alleged illegal approach for striker Antoine Griezmann.

With Barcelona expected to bring in Griezmann and Suarez being in bad form and failing to reach the previous heights he has achieved, the Uruguayan could be on his way out of the Spanish club.

"Atletico Madrid have presented a complaint about Barcelona for repeated contact between Barcelona, the player and his people", Ateleti said in a statement.

BBC Sport has contacted Barcelona for a response to the allegation.

If that does emerge as being the case then our referenced source is implying that Antoine Griezmann, instead of coming to the Camp Nou could be moving to the club many pundits thought he would be going to in the summer, Manchester United.

Speaking to Movistar, Barcelona's director of institutional relations Guillermo Amor did not deny the claims, saying: "Maybe there's been a meeting and things have advanced, although I don't know".

According to Atletico, this violation is made worse by the position of the two clubs, as they are second in the table, six points back of Barcelona, and could have impact on the title race. Whether Atletico will be minded to sell to the Catalans is another matter.
