Google Chrome Will Start Blocking Annoying Ads In 2018

20 December 2017, 01:12 | Francis Delgado

Chrome had previously pledged to block certain ad units once the CFBA's framework was in place.

On desktop, the Coalition's Better Ads Standard defines four types of troublesome ads: pop-ups, presitial ads with a countdown (ads that load before the content of the website itself loads), auto-play video ads with sound, and large sticky ads (which are ads that persist as you scroll through a page).

The plan's still on track, according to VentureBeat - Google's committed to turning on Chrome's native ad blocker on February 15, 2018. Chrome 64 is now scheduled to arrive on January 23 and Chrome 65 is slated to launch on March 6, suggesting Google will be turning on its browser's ad-blocker remotely, and possibly gradually for select users. Chrome will filters ads based on the Better Ads Standards by the Coalition for Better Ads, which Google also joined in June of this year.

She will go on trial at Folkestone Magistrates' Court on January 29 alongside Golding, who faces three similar charges. She said the rally had been suspended but added that police wanted to prevent her participation in a public rally.

We reported on rumors of future baked-in ad-blocking in Google's popular Chrome web browser back in April. Come February 15, if your website has been flagged with a "failing" status in Google's Ad Experience Report for more than 30 days, they'll remove all ads from it. When those annoying ads will be eliminated, the users will never have to install an ad blocker, which stops all ads from loading, thereby, crippling the ad businesses.

It won't block all ads just ones that are deemed aggressive by the Coalition for Better Ads whose members include Google, Facebook, Procter & Gamble, the Washington Post and groups from the advertising industry. The browser's ad blocker will be taking an all-or-nothing approach: All ads blocked if one ad doesn't follow the standards or all ads allowed if all the ads follow the standards. This is also where alleged violations can be appealed by website owners. According to the company, indiscriminate ad blockers impact publishers' bottom lines and threaten the sustainability of the web ecosystem.
