An Amtrak train derailed near DuPont Washington around 7:40 a.m. Monday
At least six people were killed and more than 70 were injured when a high-speed passenger train derailed outside Tacoma, causing several train cars to tumble from a highway overpass.
Five vehicles and two trucks were involved in the accident as 13 of the train's 14 carriages jumped the tracks. Some motorists were injured but none died, authorities said. "There are a lot of critical injuries".
"All of a sudden, we felt this rocking and creaking noise, and it felt like we were heading down a hill", passenger Chris Karnes said, as cited by Reuters. 'Next thing, we're being slammed into the front of our seats.' People kicked out windows to escape, he said.

Later reports said around 100 people were transported for treatment. We are on the ground!

Asked whether everyone was OK, the crew member replied, "I am still figuring that out. A lot of them were screaming and moaning, but there was nothing we could do to help them really, so we just stayed with them, we held their hands, we talked to them, we rubbed their backs, tried to get them to just relax and try to be a comfortable as they could", he said.
By law, PTC must be installed on all passenger rail systems by 2018, a deadline that has repeatedly been delayed.
