Barry and Honey Sherman were found dead in their Toronto mansion.

The 75-year-old founder of Apotex Pharmaceutical Holdings Inc. and his wife Honey Sherman were found dead in their Toronto home on Friday under what police called suspicious circumstances.

Police were called to the Shermans' home in an upscale neighbourhood of north Toronto just before noon on Friday in response to a "medical complaint". They said that they were treating the deaths as suspicious, but declined to say whether the bodies showed signs of trauma and did not provide details on the time or cause of death.

Apotex, in a statement on Saturday, hailed its growth from a two-person firm Sherman started in 1974 to a global giant - one of the world's largest generic drug makers, employing some 11,000 people including more than 6,000 in Canada.

It is reported the bodies of Barry and Honey Sherman were discovered in their basement in Toronto on Thursday.

He stepped down as CEO in 2012, but stayed on as chairman.

Detective Brandon Price told Canadian broadcaster CBC that investigators were still trying to determine if there was foul play involved.

Chelsea to battle Arsenal, Liverpool for £80m Lemar
The Reds spent the closing stages of the summer transfer window pursuing the France worldwide , lodging a bid worth over £70 million.

Sherman, 75, founded privately held Apotex in 1974, growing it by introducing large numbers of low-priced generic drugs that took market share from branded pharmaceuticals.

Taylor said that a "death investigation" is taking place and that the coroner is investigating. "As employees, we are proud of his tremendous accomplishments, honoured to have known him, and vow to carry on with the Apotex goal in his honour".

The couple was known for their philanthropy, giving tens of millions to hospitals, universities and Jewish organizations, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation reported.

Lawsuits from family members, alleging they were cut out of their share of the company back in 1967, had dogged Mr Sherman for decades. Neighbours confirmed that the property was the couple's home.

"Our condolences to their family & friends, and to everyone touched by their vision & spirit", Trudeau wrote on Twitter.

Eric Hoskins, Ontario's Minister of Health and Long-Term Care, tweeted: "I am beyond words right now".

Const. David Hopkinson would not identify the two deceased, but government officials said they were Toronto billionaire Berntard Sherman and his wife Honey. A very, very sad day.
