Geminid meteor shower will be at peak tonight

How to watch one of the year's top meteor showers

Last year's supermoon cast extra brightness into the night sky, which diluted the visual impact of the Geminids, a particularly showy meteor shower.

But one element that can't be stopped from hampering our ability to see shooting stars is cloud cover.

Bill Cooke with NASA's Meteoroid Environment Office said the meteors will be seen at a rate of around one per minute under good conditions.

Enter Slooh, the Washington Depot, Connecticut-based organization that connects telescopes around the globe. The remarkable display of meteors will break out over Earth in the late night hours between today and Thursday, December 14.

The flawless time to view this shower will be between 7:30 PM on December 13th until the early morning of December 14th.

The annual Geminids meteor shower will peak overnight December 13 - 14 with rates around one per minute in good conditions, according to Bill Cooke of NASA's Meteoroid Environment Office.

Trump 'slurring' reports ridiculous, will release health records: White House
The group posted a form on its website and urged people to the White House to press for recognition of Jerusalem as the capital. The Palestinians equally lay claim to Jerusalem and want the eastern part of the city as capital of a future state.

Tonight's meteor shower can be seen with the naked eye and is best viewed under clear dark skies. This asteroid sheds material as it passes close to the Sun.

Even if you missed the height of the attractive display, meteor showers will last until dawn on December 14.

This is because the constellation of Gemini - where the meteors appear to originate from - is quite close to the equator.

Dec 14, 2017-The Geminid Meteor Shower which remains active from December 4 to 16 will become more active on Thursday night. "The thin, waning crescent Moon won't spoil the show".

As for where to look, meteors will be visible from all directions of the sky.

The shower, caused astroid pieces burning up in Earth's atmosphere, will continue on through the morning. Make sure to avoid any light pollution and look up! BuzzFeed News will livestream views of the Geminid meteor show from Slooh's network of cameras and telescopes across Europe from 6-8 p.m. PST on the BuzzFeed Science Facebook page.
