Yemen's former president Ali Abdullah Saleh killed in Sanaa

Earlier, the radio station of Yemen's Houthi-run interior ministry said the militia's former war ally turned adversary had been killed as fighting racked the capital Sanaa.

Multiple images and videos of what appeared to be Saleh's dead body were posted to social media sites, though could not be immediately confirmed. The man had suffered a large head wound.

"The Houthis executed Saleh and maimed his body and this is against humanity, but the Houthis do not understand humanity", said the source.

"I appeal to the leader Saleh to show more wisdom and maturity. and not to heed incitement calls", Abdel-Malek al-Houthi said in a speech on the group's Al-Masirah TV, adding that his group was ready to sit down for arbitration and abide by any ruling.

He was escaping from Sana'a with an armored vehicle, when Saudi-led coalition killed him, along with his VP Aref Zoka and the secretary general of the National Congress Party Yaser al-Awazi. Houthi fighters followed him in 20 armoured vehicles, attacked and killed him and nearly all those with him, the officials said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

The group, backed by government troops loyal to Saleh, resumed its march south and attacked Hadi's interim capital in Aden, forcing Hadi to flee. In other footage, armed militiamen appear to unfurl a blanket with the corpse while shouting, "Praise God!"

The head of the Houthis' Ansarullah group warned that the biggest victor from what he described as Saleh's "sedition" was the Saudi-led coalition.

Meanwhile, selectors also named the 15-man squad for Sri Lanka T20Is. "I really feel unfortunate for Kuldeep Yadav". Rohit Sharma, like the ODI, will captain the side in the T20 series in the absence of Kohli.

Meanwhile, Ali Abdullah Saleh's son Khaled has been reported wounded and captured by the Houthi rebels from the Ansar Allah movement, Al Mayadeen said.

It came on the fourth day of fighting between Mr Saleh's supporters and Houthi fighters in the capital Sanaa, in a widening rift between the allies.

Tribal forces have meanwhile mobilized to support Saleh.

It was a grisly end for a figure who was able to rule the impoverished and unstable country for more than three decades and remained a powerhouse even after he was ousted in a 2011 Arab Spring uprising. If they do not, they will meet the same fate.

In May 2015, following Saudi-led coalition air raids on his home in Sanaa, Saleh officially announced for the first time the establishment of his alliance with the Houthis.

Saleh went on to denounce the Houthi militia, which he accuses of being responsible for the humanitarian disaster inside the country, and he insisted that the Yemeni people are standing up for themselves to get rid of them.

He stated the Houthis would not harm members of the GPC who refused to fight.
