Michael Flynn to Plead Guilty Over False Statements to Federal Bureau of Investigation

Former Trump adviser Michael Flynn to plead guilty to lying to the FBI
A key campaign adviser during Trump's presidential campaign, Flynn was tapped as Trump's national security adviser in November, 2016, a senior White House job that put him in a vital role for all of the administration's national security and foreign policy decisions. "My guilty plea and agreement to cooperate with the Special Counsel's Office reflect a decision I made in the best interests of my family and of our country. I think it goes well beyond the fact that he just lied to the Federal Bureau of Investigation", said Warner.
The charge against Flynn is the first in Mueller's probe that has reached someone in the Trump White House and is the latest sign that the special counsel's investigation is intensifying, CNN reported.
The document that was filed with the indictment in a Washington D.C. court, lists statements from Flynn as to why he would have met with Russian officials and who may have directed him to do so during the transition between President Barack Obama's administration and the incoming Donald Trump administration.
Flynn, who served in Donald Trump's administration for just 24 days before being forced to resign for misleading Vice President Mike Pence about his Russian Federation contacts, could be sentenced to up to five years in prison. The prosecutors' filing did not name the transition officials.
Then again, despite whatever appearance for the Trump administration that Flynn's testimony might portray, Michael Flynn is a known liar, and has admitted as such.
Flynn denies that he discussed USA sanctions against Russian Federation with Kislyak.
He connected with the Russian ambassador after a senior Trump transition official asked him to attempt to influence the positions of foreign governments on a UN Security Council resolution about Israeli settlements.
Figures in the online Trump loyalist movement that describes itself as "New Right" rushed to downplay the news earlier this morning that Flynn would plead guilty for lying to the FBI and claimed the revelation only served to discredit the investigation into whether the Trump campaign sought assistance from the Russian government. "It was about the 35 guys who were thrown out", Flynn told the Daily Caller at the time.
"The false statements involved mirror the false statements to White House officials which resulted in his resignation in February of this year", Cobb said.
Since the first allegations of Russian interference a year ago, Trump has dismissed it as "fake news" and an excuse for Democratic rival Hillary Clinton's stunning loss in the election.
In October, Paul Manafort, Trump's one-time campaign chairman, and Manafort's deputy Rick Gates were arrested on money laundering and tax-related charges in relation to their work for Moscow-backed Ukrainian leader Viktor Yanukovych.
During the Republican National Convention in July 2016, when Trump was officially nominated as the GOP's candidate, Flynn led the entire convention in a repeated chant of "Lock her up!"
