GETTYA Russian fighter made an'unsafe intercept of a US aircraft over the Black Sea

USA and Russia

The U.S. P-8A Poseidon did nothing to provoke the maneuver, defense spokesperson Michelle Baldanza told the Daily News.

After the US accused Russia of buzzing one of its jets in an "unsafe" way over the Black Sea, a decorated Russian general has fired back, saying American airmen had no business flying in these European waters to begin with.

A Russian Su-30 fighter flew within 50 feet of a U.S. Navy P-8A Poseidon surveillance aircraft traveling over the Black Sea on November 26, 2017.

"The P-8 was forced to fly through the jet wash of the SU-30", Baldanza said.

According to the Pentagon, the Russian fighter swooped in to follow the US aircraft while in global airspace-an acceptable precaution after identifying a foreign jet, even though the P-8A had its transponders on.

RK Nagar seat sees fourth poll preparation

The latest incident comes amid Russia's accusations, made earlier this month, in which they called the USA -led coalition force combating Islamic State militants in Syria "occupying forces".

In June, an armed Russian Su-27 fighter jet intercepted a U.S. RC-135 reconnaissance plane over the Baltic Sea, coming as close as five feet.

This caused "a 15-degree roll and violent turbulence" and the "interaction was determined to be unsafe", the military said.

This isn't the first hairy encounter between US and Russian aircrafts. "Unsafe actions‎ have the potential to cause serious harm and injury to all air crews involved". She told CNN that the Russian Su-30 came within 50 feet of the P-8A Poseidon while in the air above the Black Sea on Saturday, and lasted for about 24 minutes.
