Charlie Rose Accused of Sexual Misconduct by Eight Women
22 November 2017, 12:57 | Clyde Nash
Charlie Rose suspended following sexual harassment allegations
Both organizations stressed the importance of providing a safe, professional workplace. Rose'sPBS interview show, which he has hosted since 1991, has been suspended. "We need to be such a place".
He added, however that he did not believe all of the allegations were accurate.
Rose had no immediate reaction to his firing.
Rose released a statement to the Post apologizing for the behavior, saying "It is essential that these women know I hear them and that I deeply apologize for my inappropriate behavior". Many of these women alleged that Rose had touched them inappropriately, placing his hand on their legs and giving them shoulder rubs without their consent. "I have behaved insensitively at times, and I accept responsibility for that", Rose told the Post.
King has not yet spoken to Rose about the allegations but said, "I intend to speak to him certainly later today".
Kelly recalled how she looked up to Rose and asked him to host her first event for Settle for More, her recent book, last November.
Rose routinely landed the biggest names in global politics, entertainment and letters for his interview show.
Rose's downfall hits CBS hard. Until recently, CBS has rarely been competitive in the lucrative morning show competition but the program has been on a ratings upswing, too. Rose is also contributor to CBS acclaimed Sunday evening newsmagazine 60 Minutes. The story about Rose led the show.
It was a startlingly swift rejection of Rose, a presence on American TV screens for 45 years. One of the accusers claimed that Rose had groped her breasts. "Let be very clear".
"As tough as this story is, it's important that we cover it", Golodryga said.
"I've held him in such high regard", she said, "and I'm really struggling, because how do you - what do you say when someone that you deeply care about has done something that is so disgusting?"
Now, she said: "I'm really struggling. But the thing about Charlie Rose is that he would commonly require his employees to come over to his private homes", Brittain said. "He doesn't get a pass because I can not stop thinking about the anguish of these women".
"It takes a lot of courage for these women to come forward and I think that they should continue to do so", O'Donnell said, kicking off the emotional segment. Women can not achieve equality in the workplace or in society until there is a reckoning and a taking of responsibility.
"Some critics might say, well why were they in position, you know, to see him naked?"
He also commented that "no one may be able to correct the past", but "what may once have been accepted should not ever have been acceptable".
