Carter Page, a foreign policy adviser to Donald Trump as he ran for president a year ago, told campaign aides he had gained "incredible insights" from Russian lawmakers and "senior members" of President Vladimir Putin's administration when he made a trip to Moscow in the midst of the US election.
Paul Manafort, the indicted former campaign chairman for President Donald Trump, says he's worth $28 million.
"Number one, there could be risks that the information is not comprehensive", said Page, under questioning from the panel's top Democrat, Adam Schiff of California. But last week, Page testified to the House Intelligence Committee that he reported to Trump officials about the trip when he returned. A photo showed Sessions also attended that campaign meeting, and a source told CNN that at the meeting, Sessions vetoed the proposed Trump-Putin sit-down. He had to recuse himself from investigations into the alleged Russian interference after it was revealed in March that he met with Russian ambassador Sergei Kislyak at least twice in 2016.
Papadopoulos lied to federal investigators about his interactions with a professor he believed had substantive ties to the Kremlin, according to the statement of offense filed with the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.
In testimony made public on Monday, Page initially said he did not meet with any senior Russian officials during a trip in July 2016 but later said he "briefly" greeted Russian deputy prime minister Arkady Dvorkovich, and saw him again at a dinner in December 2016.
"In a private conversation, Dvorkovich expressed strong support for Mr. Trump and a desire to work together toward devising better solutions in response to the vast range of current worldwide problems", Page wrote, according to Schiff.
Sessions' testimony before the House Judiciary Committee, which has not been publicly announced, was confirmed by a Justice Department spokesman and two congressional aides.
Page admitted he met with Russian officials and discussed the US election "in general terms". Page said he did not recall the email until a reporter from The Washington Post told him about it in August of this year.
"He didn't say yes and he didn't say no", the official said, declining to be more specific about Trump's response to Papadopoulos.
In a letter sent Tuesday, the lawmakers note that one of the Trump campaign's foreign policy advisers, George Papadopoulos, acknowledged to FBI investigators that he told several Trump campaign officers about his outreach to the Russian Federation government. And it goes back to the point I mentioned with listening to speeches, listening to particularly Arkadiy Dvorkovich's speech, right.
Only 7 percent of Trump voters say they believe that members of the campaign team colluded with Russian Federation.
According to a from the Democratic-leaning firm Public Policy Polling, 79 percent of people who voted for President Trump say he should remain even if collusion is proven, and 75 percent said the entire Russian Federation story is "fake news".
