Mueller investigation close to charging ex-Trump national security adviser Michael Flynn, NBC reports

Special Counsel Robert Mueller has enough evidence to charge Michael Flynn and his son

Flynn's lawyer Robert Kelner declined to comment when asked if Flynn denies any collusion with Russian Federation during the 2016 election.

Flynn's son appeared to comment on the NBC report shortly after it was published. It's also possible that Flynn Jr., who worked with his father during the Trump campaign and transition, could be targeted first as a way to gain leverage over Flynn Sr. Officials told NBC News that any quid-pro-quo agreement between Flynn and the Turkish government would be illegal.

At issue is Flynn's lobbying work.

Special counsel Robert Mueller has his next target in sight.

Former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort and his longtime business associate Rick Gates were indicted early last week on 12 counts that include, conspiracy against the United States, conspiracy to launder money, unregistered agent of a foreign principal, false and misleading FARA statements, false statements, and failure to file reports of foreign bank and financial accounts.

Mr Flynn resigned in February, after just 24 days in the role, when it emerged he had lied to administration officials, including Mike Pence, the Vice President, about his communications with representatives of the Russian government.

The alleged evidence against Mr Flynn, a retired army general, suggests Mr Mueller's probe is getting closer to the inner circle around Mr Trump. He is also under investigation for his possible role in an attempt to ship a political enemy of Turkish President Recap Erdogan back to Turkey from the USA in exchange for several million dollars.

According to the Justice Department his consulting firm was paid $530,000 previous year for work that may have helped the Turkish government but he had not registered as a foreign lobbyist at the time. It was also revealed last week that former foreign policy adviser for the Trump campaign, George Papadopoulos, had pleaded guilty to lying to the F.B.I.

Flynn worked on the campaign and his son worked closely with him and briefly worked on the Trump campaign's transition.
